Reflexology is a therapy where pressure is applied to specific points or areas on the feet or hands. Reflexologists believe that these areas and reflex points correspond to different organs and body systems, and that pressure applied to them will encourage the body to heal from within, Although reflexology is not a means of diagnois or cure, it is increasingly used to complement other treatments for many health conditions. The practitioner works to release congestion in the nervous system and balance the energy of the body.

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet and hands the correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. By applying pressure using the fingers and thumbs, a relexologist can create a positive effect on the corresponding part of the body. Reflexologists use maps of the feet of hands which show these correspondences. The maps show that the left foot corresponds to the left side of the body and all the organs and glands found there and the right foot corresponds to the right side of the body.

A reflexologist may perform a general reflexology treatment, or one for a specific health problem, to focus on any issue that may have become apparent during the initial consultation.
